Job Description

We are looking for a talented and passionate writer to join our team, helping to drive coverage in the early morning hours. This remote role is central to the content strategy of LawandCrime.com, the most-read true crime website in the U.S. As part of the broader Law&Crime family, you’ll contribute to a brand that not only leads in online true crime reporting but also powers the Law&Crime Network, a 24/7 source for crime content, and Law&Crime Productions, which creates compelling documentaries and original programming for top networks like HBO Max, Netflix, Hulu, Lifetime, and A+E. As a dedicated crime and courts journalist, you will be responsible for producing high-quality content that aligns with our editorial standards and coverage priorities. You’ll play a key role in shaping our daily news output, ensuring accuracy, fairness, and engagement across all platforms. This is a fully remote role with an option to work from Law&Crime’s office in New York.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 3+ years experience as a successful full-time crime or court editor/reporter

  • Knowledge, experience, and deep sourcing in the legal/crime field

  • A strong knowledge of Associated Press style

  • Comfort and experience working in a fast-paced competitive news environment

  • Knowledge of how to obtain and read legal documents and derive news content from them

  • Familiarity with WordPress

  • Experience with analytics & how to drive smart content decisions based on them

  • A track record working collaboratively with fellow writers and editors

  • The drive to care about being first — but care even more about being accurate

  • Comfortable with working a Tuesday-Saturday shift

In this role, you will:

  • Pitch, report and write multiple true crime/legal stories daily

  • Work an early morning shift, with a focus on the highest priority crime and legal news topics

  • Key contributor to breaking news, willingness to pivot at a moment’s notice

  • Ensure we report fully, fairly, and accurately on all stories

  • Craft compelling headlines and understand how to package content with compelling visuals & pictures

  • Work closely with our network/social teams to ensure we are writing stories that align closely with our overall coverage priorities
